There’s no better way to explore Downtown Tuscaloosa than by foot, and no better time than now as Historic Tuscaloosa and Visit Tuscaloosa pair up to offer a new series of Downtown Walking Tours that journey through the history and historic landmarks behind our city’s creation. Every Saturday in April, history buffs, architecture admirers, and curious locals alike are invited to lace up their walking shoes and take a guided stroll through over two centuries of Tuscaloosa’s rich and storied past.
Led by William Hawkins, Executive Director of Historic Tuscaloosa, the tours offer a front-row view of the city’s evolution from its early days as the state capital to the cultural renaissance that shaped the Tuscaloosa we know and love today. Think stately mansions, untold stories, and a whole lot of Southern charm around every corner as you stroll through the scenic streets of downtown and along the Black Warrior River.
Each 90-minute tour begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion, just a short walk from WestGate Condominiums, and is limited to 20 guests to keep the experience intimate, interactive, and full of character. Best of all, the tours are free—but donations to Historic Tuscaloosa are encouraged to help preserve these iconic landmarks for generations to come.
To reserve a spot, contact Historic Tuscaloosa at (205) 758-2238 or email info@historictuscaloosa.org. Don’t wait too long—spots fill fast!
