5 Top Traditions

Every fanbase has their share of traditions, and our fans have more than most. From good-luck superstitions (never change your gameday shirt in a winning streak) to must-do gameday activities (grabbing a bite at Rama Jama’s), football fans take their tailgating as seriously as their wins.

So you know how to get the true experience, here are some of the most iconic T-town traditions:

Yellowhammers

The official state bird of Alabama is also the official drink on gameday. It was made popular by Gallettes, an historic bar just a few feet away from the stadium, and is a tasty and traditional complement to your football cheer. They guard the original recipe closely, but you can get close by blending vodka, rum, and amaretto with a healthy dose of orange and pineapple juice.

Gameday Attire

Fans come to gameday dressed to impress – especially the students. Fraternity and Sorority members don chic dresses and sharp suspenders, team pins decorate every shirt pocket, and iconic houndstooth prints can be seen for miles around. Don’t forget your red and white shaker to complete your look!

The Quad

As early as Thursday, fans and vendors begin setting up the sea of crimson and white tents that cover The Quad on gameday. These tents play host to thousands of fans on football Saturday and are laden with big-screen TVs, pounds of delicious southern football fare, and fun lawn games.

The Walk of Champions

The Walk of Champions is one of those must-do gameday activities. Two hours before kickoff, thousands of fans line the path to the stadium to cheer on the team as the coach leads the players from their bus to the locker room.

The Elephant Stomp

After the Walk of Champions, it’s time to head to the steps of Gorgas Library for The Elephant Stomp. An hour before the game, the Million Dollar Band amps up the crowd on The Quad by playing “Yea, Alabama” and other favorite team songs before making its way to the stadium.

Traditions are one of the best parts of college football, and there’s always room for new ones – like tailgating at the luxurious WestGate Condominiums. With our spacious SkyGate Club, catered games, and awesome VIP perks, we may just be your favorite gameday tradition yet!
